CUBS. It sounds like the name of a dodgy all male pop band who sang the one hit wonder “three on one off” back in the eighties while sporting flat tops, acid washed jeans, and snug denim jackets and crooning to their audience of ladies in big shoulder pads.
Fast forward 20 or so years and CUBS has become the acronym for “cashed up bogans” which is a common misnomer used in the media to refer to construction workers, technicians, trades assistants and other hard workers who sacrifice precious time with their families and friends for very high wages working fly in – fly out (FIFO) or drive in – drive out (DIDO) rosters which are typically a ratio of two, three or four weeks on site to one week off.
