Lismore Base Hospital Redevelopment

Location: Lismore, NSW
Project Manager: Health Infrastructure
Construction Period: 2013 – 2019
Project Value: $50 – $100 million (Stage 3A), $260 million (Stage 3B)
Project Status: Under Construction

Lismore Base Hospital is undergoing the third stage of its restructuring; stage 3A began back in 2009 and was meant to be completed by 2012 however, delays set it back to being expected June 2016. Stage 3B will begin upon completion of stage 3B, continuing until 2019.

This third stage of development is delivering a lot; stage 3A will see the hospital gain:

  • An expanded emergency department
  • An emergency medical unit, emergency care, and fast track zone
  • Expanded medical imaging capacity
  • An ambulance drop-off and bay
  • A renal dialysis unit
  • A mortuary
  • More interview and consultations rooms
  • A pathology unit

Stage 3B will deliver:

  • An 11 story tower (with two stories underground), and a three story tower (with one story underground)
  • A helipad, atop the main tower
  • New operating theatres
  • A maternity suite
  • A paediatric unit
  • A medical imaging centre
  • Ambulatory / outpatient services
  • Clinical and non-clinical support services
  • New ward beds

It has been a goal of Mr. George, the Lismore MP to see the hospital upgraded ever since he was first elected in 1999; the current project is based off of an idea put forth in 2004, though it won’t see completion until 2019, 15 years after the initial proposal.
